It was with great sadness and concern that we learned that the Task Force reviewing academic programs at Mizzou recommends the closure of our excellent Master's program in Religious Studies based largely on enrollment numbers.

The Religious Studies department kicked off its new lecture series Religion in Missouri this fall. Our first speaker was Professor John Schmalzbauer, Blanche Gorman Strong Chair in Protestant Studies at Missouri State University.
We were thrilled to learn that our MA program alumna Emily Clark (MA 2009), now Assistant Professor of Religious Studies at Gonzaga University, won both the Francis B.
Rabia Gregory shared her experiences taking students from Mizzou and UMKC to monasteries in Missouri and Kansas at the International Congress on Medieval Studies this May. She and a group of faculty from Mizzou and UMKC were awarded funding by the UM System to develop Monastic Worlds, a new experiential learning course that introduces students
Dr. Carrie Duncan was the Assistant Director of an archeological dig in Jordan last summer, and she writes: “We had a very exciting season at the ‘Ayn Gharandal Archaeological Project in 2017, focusing on the excavation of a small church built in the middle of our 4th century Roman fort.
Thanks to Dr. Rabia Gregory, the Department of Religious Studies has been awarded $30,000 from the Wabash Center for Teaching and Learning in Theology and Religion, which is funded by Lilly Endowment Inc.
Our beloved colleague, teacher, mentor, and friend Dr. Bob Flanagan retired this past spring after teaching Religious Studies at Mizzou for 34 years. During his years at Mizzou, Bob played a positive and essential role in the lives of generations of students.
